A Lightshot alternative.
Lightshot is fast and simple, but every screenshot uploaded to its site becomes a public link. If you share customer screens, internal tools or work chats, these alternatives annotate just as quickly and upload nothing.
Hold Shift for a straight line, Ctrl for a rectangle and Ctrl + Shift for an arrow.
What is the best Lightshot alternative?
If you like Lightshot's speed but don't want screenshots on a public server, the best Windows alternative is Sincron Screen Tools. It crops and annotates with arrows, rectangles, highlights and text, adds a background and shadow, and nothing leaves your computer while you capture and annotate. It is free with no limits.
The thing to watch with Lightshot is uploading. Its privacy policy says every uploaded image is public and can be viewed by anyone who types its exact address. In 2021, Kaspersky showed that those addresses were sequential: changing one character in a link opened someone else's screenshot.
If you still need to share links, ShareX uploads to a destination you configure, including your own storage. If you only copy and paste, the Windows Snipping Tool already does that without uploading anything.

What happens when you upload a screenshot with Lightshot
Lightshot has three outputs: copy to the clipboard, save to a file, or upload to its server, which returns a short prnt.sc link. The first two stay on your computer. Uploading, and also opening the capture in the online editor, sends the image to the site.
The privacy policy is direct: every uploaded image is public, with or without an account, and anyone who types the exact address can see it. The same text says the gallery is not meant for secure image storage. To remove an uploaded screenshot, the FAQ says to email support or use the abuse button on the image page.
In practice, a screenshot with a customer name, an order number or an internal tool should not become a prnt.sc link. If that is your team's habit, pasting the image straight into chat removes most of the risk.

Who should switch and who can stay
Switch if you share work screenshots
Customer screens, internal tools, chats: none of that should become a public link. With Sincron, the screenshot stays on your PC until you paste it.
Switch if you want a more polished screenshot
Sincron adds a background, padding, rounded corners and a shadow on top of arrows and highlights. Lightshot stops at lines, arrows and text.
Switch if you point at things live
Ctrl + Shift + D lets you draw over any app during a call, without taking a screenshot first.
Stay if you use a Mac or the browser
Lightshot has a Mac version and Chrome and Firefox extensions. Sincron is Windows only.
Stay if a public link is fine
For something already public, like a web page, Lightshot's short link is handy. Just don't upload anything you wouldn't publish.

What Lightshot does that Sincron doesn't
Short links
Sincron does not upload screenshots or create links. To share, paste the image into chat or attach the PNG.
Mac and browser
There is no Mac version and no browser extension. Sincron runs only on Windows 10 and 11.
Similar image search
Lightshot can search the web for images similar to your capture. Sincron has no such feature.
Blur
Neither tool blurs. To keep data out of a Sincron screenshot, leave it outside the crop; to blur, use ShareX or Greenshot.
Common questions about Lightshot
Is Lightshot safe?
Copying or saving to your computer sends nothing anywhere. The risk is uploading: its privacy policy says every uploaded image is public to anyone with the address. For screenshots with personal or work data, don't upload.
Are prnt.sc screenshots public?
Uploaded ones are. Lightshot's privacy policy says no uploaded image is ever completely hidden from public view and anyone with the exact address can see it, even if it sits in your gallery.
How do I delete a screenshot uploaded with Lightshot?
Lightshot's FAQ says to ask support to remove it by email or to press the abuse button on the image page.
Can I use Lightshot without uploading anything?
Yes. Copying the capture and saving it to a file do not upload the image. Only the upload action and the online editor send it to the site.
Does Sincron upload my screenshots anywhere?
Not when you capture, annotate or draw: everything stays on your computer and works offline. Only translating and summarizing send the selected area, with your own key, straight to OpenAI or OpenRouter.
