Close what you do not want seen
An area shows anything that appears over it. Close chats, mail and tabs that are not for the audience before you start.
Zoom has an option for it. In Teams and Meet, the help pages list only the entire screen, a window and, in Meet, a tab. Here is what to use in each one, and how to share just an area in any of them.
In Zoom, click Share, open the Advanced tab and choose Portion of Screen: a green rectangle appears and you drag its sides or corners to frame what everyone sees, even while sharing. If your administrator turns off desktop sharing, the option disappears.
The help pages of Teams and Google Meet list only the entire screen and a window (plus a tab in Meet), with no way to pick an area. To share just a region in them, use an app that crops it for you: in Sincron Screen Tools, press Ctrl + Shift + P, select the area and share the window “Screen Tools — Apresentação”.
If one app is enough, sharing only that window already keeps the rest of your screen private. In Meet, Google recommends sharing a Chrome tab to protect sensitive information.

Menu names are in English and refer to the desktop apps on Windows.
Click Share, open the Advanced tab and select Portion of Screen. A green-bordered rectangle marks what is shared; drag its sides or corners to resize it, even during the share. If the option is missing, your administrator may have turned off desktop sharing.
Teams offers the entire screen, a window, PowerPoint Live, Excel Live and Whiteboard, and its help pages describe no way to select an area. To share one region, crop it with Sincron (next steps) and share that window.
Click Present now and pick a tab, a window or the entire screen. Meet's help pages describe no area option. Google recommends sharing a Chrome tab to protect sensitive information, and Chrome hides pop-up notifications while you present.
Press Ctrl + Shift + P and drag over the part of the screen you want to show. The area shows anything that appears over it, so close what you do not want anyone to see.
Choose to share a window and select it. Click Present to hide the controls; Esc in that window brings them back.

Teams turns on Do not disturb for its own notifications by default, and Zoom has a Silence system notifications when sharing desktop setting on Windows. For everything else, turn on Windows Do not disturb yourself.
If the audience only needs to see one application, share its window: the others see that window and nothing else.
Of the three, only Zoom lists a native option for sharing part of the screen. In Teams and Meet, the help pages we checked describe no area option.
If a notification or another window crosses the selected area, the audience sees it. To follow one application only, select a window instead.
If the presentation window overlaps the area you are capturing, the output pauses to avoid a mirror effect. Move the window, pick a smaller area or capture an application window.
Present live works on Windows 10 and 11. The app's screen for this feature is in English and Portuguese for now.
