Is there a CleanShot X for Windows?

No. CleanShot X is Mac only, and its official FAQ says there is no Windows version and no current plan to release one. Shottr, the other popular Mac pick, is also available only for macOS. Xnapper, which started on the Mac, has a Windows version in early access.

On Windows, the closest match to the CleanShot way of sharing screenshots is the Screenshot Studio in Sincron Screen Tools: crop with Ctrl + Shift + C, pick a gradient background, set padding, corners and shadow, and paste the finished screenshot. Arrows, rectangles and text go on top of the screen with Ctrl + Shift + D. Capturing and annotating are free with no limits; only custom image backgrounds are part of the paid plans.

CleanShot also has scrolling capture, video recording, OCR, pinned screenshots and cloud sharing, and Sincron has none of those. On Windows, ShareX covers most of them for free, and Snagit covers them with a subscription.

Context

Why Mac switchers miss CleanShot

CleanShot X puts capture, annotation, beautiful backgrounds, recording and cloud sharing in one app. It costs US$35 as a one-time purchase with a year of updates, an optional US$19 yearly renewal, and a separate cloud plan. Shottr follows the same idea, free to use with a paid license.

Windows has no single app with that exact package. The way out is to choose by what you use most: if it is the polished screenshot with background and shadow, Sincron does it in two keystrokes; if it is scrolling capture, video and cloud, ShareX does it for free, with more setup.

Options

What to use on Windows instead of CleanShot X

Sincron Screen Tools

Where it falls short
On Windows it is early access: the site caps it at the first 100 downloads, and the pricing page still lists macOS only.

Snagit

Windows and Mac

Real limits

What CleanShot does that Sincron doesn't

Scrolling, video and GIF

Sincron captures only what is visible and does not record the screen.

Redaction and steps

There is no blur, redaction or step numbers. To keep data out of a screenshot, leave it outside the crop.

OCR, pinning and history

Sincron does not copy the original text from an image, does not pin screenshots on top and keeps no capture history.

Cloud and links

Nothing goes to the cloud and there are no share links. You copy and paste, or save a PNG.
